Key Information

PE and sport premium for primary schools

Primary PE and Sport Premium is an initiative that aims to help increase and improve the PE and sporting opportunities for children. Schools use this funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport they provide.

This year, our funding was spent on:

  • Membership to the Schools Sport Partnership to provide a range of opportunities for students to participate in local competitions and festivals throughout the year.
  • Payment to the School Sports Partnership to provide CPD and development opportunities for staff to add to and enhance skills and knowledge to deliver the best level of PE provision possible.
  • The employment of a lunchtime play leader to teach children games to play at lunchtimes and ensure all year groups have the opportunity to participate.
  • Purchasing new sports equipment to ensure the correct resources are available to teach high quality lessons.
  • Providing a range of after school clubs to ensure each child had at least one sports club available to them at some point during the year.
  • Teachers and support staff working alongside professional coaches for one PE lesson a week to further improve their subject knowledge and improve their skills.
  • Extra provision for swimming lessons to allow the children who did not meet the required standard of 25m.

Swimming and Water Safety

The National Curriculum states:

All schools must provide swimming instruction either in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.

In particular, pupils should be taught to:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • Use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke)
  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

At Healing Primary Academy we provide swimming lessons, primarily to Year 4 children, in the Autumn term. Please find details of our current pass rate below.
